2022 ULA Annual Conference

Registration is now open for the 2022 ULA Annual Conference being held May 18-20 at the Davis Convention Center in Layton!

The theme for the conference is “United in Diversity | Unida en la Diversidad.” Tracks include general librarianship, public librarianship, academic librarianship, management and leadership, technical services, and youth services. Diversity driven sessions will be featured in each track.

We are excited to welcome a variety of speakers:

    • Nicanor Diaz, Vice President of ALA’s Reforma, who will present on library services to Latinos and Spanish speakers.
    • Twana Hodge, Diversity, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Librarian at the University of Florida, will answer questions about how to answer the call to center on diversity in librarianship. She will also be leading a ‘For Us By Us’ session for ULA’s BIPOC membership. ULA’s BIPOC membership is encouraged to fill out this survey that will shape this session.
    • Carole Lindstrom, Caldecott Medalist Author of We Are Water Protectors, will speak about her experience writing an award-winning picture book.
    • Jane Sandberg, editor of Ethical Questions in Name Authority Control, who will present on respectful and accurate catalog descriptions for an equitable user experience.
    • Patty Wong, American Library Association President, who will speak on diversity management and creating organizational change.

ULA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our annual conference. The following safety standards will be in place:

  • All attendees are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations or a negative test within 72 hours of admittance.  Attendees will need to upload their vaccination card through the Docket App and show proof of vaccination in the app or negative test results upon entry.
  • Masks will be required indoors, except while presenting.
  • Seating at the conference will promote physical distancing. Some sessions may become full. Please be prepared to go to an alternative session if your first choice is full.
  • Individuals are encouraged to monitor symptoms and be tested for COVID-19 before attending.  Those who have symptoms or test positive should stay home and contact ULA about canceling or reassigning registration.
  • ULA will continue to monitor COVID-19 conditions and make adjustments as needed.

Other things of importance for the upcoming conference:

  • Conference fees have changed. See the new rates here. Scholarships are available here – it takes minimal time to apply! Less than 5 minutes!
  • Download the Sched app on the App Store or Google Play to view the upcoming keynotes and sessions. Or, visit the Sched website.
  • ULA has adopted Unity in Diversity Communications Guidelines for conference attendees to have respectful and thoughtful dialogues around diversity and our ever evolving profession.
  • The final United in Diversity Book Club will take place at the conference. Everyone is invited to read Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor by Layla F. Saad.
  • A BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) only session will be held at this conference. Keynote speaker, Twanna Hodge, would like BIPOC membership to provide feedback to shape this session. Please consider filling out this BIPOC Google Form.
  • We will be holding a 5K before the conference! Stay tuned for more information!
