Contact Your Representative to Save IMLS Funding

A recent executive order targeting the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has threatened the future and ongoing vitality of Utah’s libraries. While IMLS represents just 0.003% of the federal budget, its impact on libraries and museums across the country is profound. IMLS supports institutions through grants, research, and policy development aimed at strengthening library and museum services. In Utah, the Grants to States program provides critical funding to the Utah State Library Division, which supports essential services such as early literacy initiatives, statewide library services and interlibrary loan programs, access to eBooks and audiobooks, digital literacy training, and professional development for library staff. Many Utahns benefit from this program including children, parents, teenagers, adult learners, senior citizens, the unemployed, and the business community as well as special needs Utahns such as the blind and the physically handicapped.

In Utah, IMLS funding has supported many programs and services including:

  • Utah’s Early Literacy Programs: Including resources for young readers, family literacy kits, and outreach to underserved communities.
  • Utah State Library for the Blind and Disabled: Ensuring accessible services for all Utahns.
  • Utah’s Statewide Library Consortium: Access to digital materials for over 70 member libraries throughout the state.
